Yasuni - Grand Prix of the Americas

The Estrella Galicia 0,0 Moto3 rider is now second in the championship. The debutant Alonso Lopez caresses the points after a hard race.

Team Estrella Galicia 0.0 Moto3 riders, Arón Canet and Alonso López, finished the American tour of the World Championship with the race of the Grand Prix of the Americas on Sunday.

The COTA track has dawned with temperatures lower than the previous days and a slightly stronger wind, although fortunately with the sun blowing through a partially covered sky.

Arón Canet had set the seventh fastest time in warm up and started second on the race grid. As soon as the start was made, the Valencian rider placed third and was then in a tumultuous group at the head of the race in which he could not avoid losing positions. Having passed the halfway point of the race, Canet has been riding in twelfth place, although from that moment on he has started to recover positions to finish eighth. With this result, Canet now occupies second place in the provisional championship standings with 48 points.

In a further step forward in his progression this weekend, rookie Alonso Lopez had taken the 18th best time in warm up, down almost seven tenths of a second from his best lap time on Saturday. In the race he managed to overcome a multiple crash in turn 1 to ride in the top twenty during the initial measures. In the following laps, the rider from Madrid has been riding alone without being able to reach the group that preceded him due to the lack of a good lap time. Finally, his effort has led him to win some places and cross the finish line in seventeenth position. López occupies the thirteenth place in the championship with 10 points.

"Now we have to keep working for the Spanish GP."

"I had trouble keeping up with the pace in the race, I had problems on the straight and I didn't know the cause very well. We still have to analyze the data. At least, we have improved the result I achieved at this circuit last year, my team has done an excellent job throughout the weekend. At the beginning of the race I was well placed but, as the laps went by, I had difficulties in certain parts of the track. The problem was getting worse and then I found myself riding with several riders I couldn't get ahead with. Despite the result, I think we are very strong. Now we have to find out what happened and continue working for the Spanish GP, where we won last year. We will certainly work to try to match that result.

"This experience has been very useful and necessary."

"All weekend we had a hard time getting the rhythm right because this is a circuit with curves that are nothing like the European circuits. It is true that we have been improving day by day, and for the coming year this experience has been very useful and necessary. In the end I got the hang of the circuit and my pace has been constantly improving. In the braking of the first corner I had recovered several positions, but they touched me and I thought I was going to fall. I thought about the race calmly, I knew I couldn't be in the top ten with the pace I had.
